Stefan Cloete

BChB, MClinDent (Prosthodontics)
Principal Dentist

GDC Registration Number 71693

Stefan is a vastly experienced dentist who qualified in 1996 from the world-renowned University of Pretoria.  He achieved the qualification of BChD with distinction and received numerous accolades along the way, including Best Dental Student.  During an eight-year stint at a private practice in London and Chelmsford, Stefan furthered his training by completing a four-year Masters degree in Prosthodontics, which he duly achieved with distinction.  Stefan also has a passion for rejuvenating a patient’s smile and has achieved phenomenal results in doing smile makeover treatment and improvements in facial aesthetics. He also enjoys using botox and dermal fillers to create the optimum cosmetic result.

In his spare time, Stefan is a keen tennis player (although his dodgy hip has prevented him from attending Wimbledon), enjoys running and playing guitar in two rock bands.  He would like to think of himself as a legendary singer and aficionado of the muso world, but those of us who know him might disagree. However, despite this one shortcoming, he enjoys life with his partner Marni, her three children and his two sons, Jacques and Francois.

Associate Dentist

GDC Registration Number 179066

I completed my dental training at the University of Bristol, receiving my degree qualification in 2009.  Since qualification, I have undertaken extensive postgraduate training, successfully completing the Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry Certificate at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute in London.  I have also successfully passed the MJDF examinations from the Royal College of Surgeons, completed the Foundation for Implant Dentistry course with the renowned ITI organisation in 2015, and most recently passed a masters degree in Endodontics with Distinction at King College London.  I gained 5 years of clinical experience in private dentistry in Ascot and West Sussex before joining our practice.  I pride myself on delivering dentistry of the highest quality, pain free, in a relaxed, friendly and caring atmosphere and I am proud to be a part of the QRDC team and their ethos towards dental care.

Although having grown up in Windsor, I feel very much at home in Guernsey, where my grandparents and great grandparents have lived for many years.  So if you don’t think you’ll be able to put up with Stefan’s infamous singing skills, don’t worry, I am somewhat quieter and looking forward to meeting you soon in Treatment Suite 3!

Dental Hygienist

I was born and raised in Guernsey and my first job on leaving the Girls Grammar School, was a Dental Nurse. I went on to gain my National & Hospital Certificates (commendation) from the Bristol Dental Hospital. I qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 1988 from Edinburgh University Dental Hospital and was awarded the ‘Ash Instrument Prize’ for best clinical student.

Within a year of qualifying, I went to work for the Ministry of Defence & Aviation in the North-West area Armed Forces Hospital in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. I gained a wealth of experience dividing my time between the Dental Hospital and the near by Air Force base. Whilst there I was fortunate to travel extensively & spent most weekends scuba-diving in the Red Sea. After 4 years I was given a 3 month locum position to set up The Dental Hygiene Clinic on another military base, in the middle of no where in the empty quarter. Finally, I spent my last 18 months in the Middle East working for The Ministry of Health in The Multi-Disciplinary Dental Unit of Tawam Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

I returned to Guernsey in 1995 where I have been working ever since. I live with my very tolerant Husband Dean, along with an ever increasing shoe collection! I spend my spare time in more ladylike pursuits – walking my beloved dog Rhubarb & spending time trying to control my garden.

Dental Hygienist

I started my dental career in Cornwall, completing the GNVQ3 in Dental nursing as well as the NEBDN Radiography course for dental nurses. During my time in Cornwall I was lucky enough to work within a special private practice assisting the principal dentist with periodontal surgery and dental implant procedures, at the time I was also head sedation nurse completing the certificate for dental sedation. It was during this period that I knew I wanted to pursue a career as a Dental Hygienist and I was accepted to The Eastman Dental Hospital where I completed The Diploma for Dental Hygienists through the Royal College of Surgeons, I was also awarded the Carol Chivers award for outstanding patient care.

During the course of my career I have worked in a vary of dental settings across Central London and Surrey including NHS, Private and Specialist Orthodontic practice.
Promoting oral health is very important to me and I’ve been able to visit schools over Kingston and South Kensington to deliver oral hygiene sessions to groups. I’ve also travelled to Tanzania with the Charity Bridge2Aid several times to to deliver training programmes to Chief Medical officers in Emergency Dental Treatment and Preventative care.  Being born and Bred in Guernsey I have always remained close to the island and during my studies I organised the first Mouth Cancer Awareness walks on the island raising money for The Mouth Cancer Foundation.  In 2017 I was nominated as a finalist for the Best dental Hygienist, Oral Health Awards.
I like to take an holistic approach to my care my patients and consider all factors contributing towards  dental health and have recently completed a Level 3 Diploma in Nutritional Therapy. I take a gentle approach and always include my patients in the care of the teeth and gums. This leads to good dental health, a good level of understanding and I always aim for pain free care.
I am so excited to be part of QRDC and look forward to continuing to grow and develop alongside them.
Since moving back to the Island in late 2017 I have been busy with my partner raising our little boy Rupert.  When not in the surgery you can find me on beach cleans with my 3 year old, or going on adventures throughout the Island.

Working at QRDC in addition to my private practice is wonderful.  I work closely with the Principal to ensure we deliver a holistic, patient-centered service. Our primary focus revolves around patient satisfaction – we want everyone to have the most positive experience and forget they are in a clinical environment.  Being a registered psychotherapist and nutritionist, as well as a Master Practitioner in nutritional interventions for eating disorders, I have a special interest in health and healing.  Observing the newfound confidence in patients with cosmetic makeovers makes me further appreciate how important our appearance is to our overall sense of ourselves.  I am excited about new developments taking place at QRDC that will further enhance our patient experience, as well as embarking upon research in conjunction with our highly specialised two-phase Orthodontic treatment.

I love keeping fit and running, preparing and eating healthy and delicious meals as well as caring for my three children and (exceptionally) talented partner, Stefan… whose singing is of a… rather high calibre for a dentist!

Practice Manager

I started working for QRDC as a Trainee Dental Nurse in November 2017, and became fully qualified in May 2021. In November 2020 I took over the role as Practice Manager.

Within my time here I have learned so many things and have loved seeing the transformation of patient’s teeth and how happy they are with their final results. I have also enjoyed (if that is the right word) listening to Stefan’s different styles of singing, (mainly his opera)  which can be heard through the walls in Treatment Suite 2! I love working with our amazing team and patients, who make coming to work a pleasure and I look forward to many more years at QRDC!

Dental Nurse

I first started working at the QRDC as a Trainee Dental Nurse in 2001 at the age of 19, after deciding that a typical office job just wasn’t for me!  I eventually took my NEBDA examination in 2005, hearing that I had qualified in 2006 whilst travelling in India.  Over the next few years, the travelling bug took hold and I disappeared off again, but always returned back to the Queens Road Dental Centre.  It certainly is a great place to work.  I love the funny banter with the Dentist and patients, and the vast range of music that gets played in the surgery. I recently have had to give up full time work for a part-time position at QRDC due to the arrival of my beautiful baby boy William in January 2016.  Although William takes up a lot of my time, I still manage to fit in the things I enjoy, like watching and reading Sci-Fi series and going down to Footes Lane Stadium for the rugby.

I love the variety that dentistry provides and I thrive on making people more comfortable and confident about their teeth and having treatment.  I always have a hand to squeeze if a nervous patient comes in!  I also enjoy seeing the change in people both physically and mentally after having orthodontic treatment, seeing their confidence grow with each passing month as they start to envisage the end result.
